East Cheshire’s Joe Steward took part in the World Mountain Running Championships today (Sunday 30th July) in Panama, Italy.
Joe was selected to represent Great Britain & NI after his 3rd place finish in the trial last month. Joe was the new-comer of the team having only got in to mountain/fell running this year. A very proud moment for Joe came in the opening ceremony where Joe was given the responsibility of flying the GB flag for the whole team! He joined experienced mountain runners Andrew Douglas, Christopher Smith and Graham Gristwood in the senior men’s GB team.
Joe had a solid race and finished in a very respectable 51st place with a time of 1.03.54 over the 13km course. The eventual winner was Victor Kiplangat from Uganda in a very quick 52.31. Joe’s teammates Andrew Douglas, Chris Smith and Graham Gristwood finished 9th, 23rd and 25th respectively with the team finishing in a fantastic 5th place overall.
Well done Joe and all the GB team! Full results:Â http://www.corsainmontagna.it/2017/07/30/premana-lc-campionato-mondiale-corsa-montagna-full-results/
