The annual Dovestone Diamond 10k multi-terrain race took place on Wednesday 25th May. Conditions were relatively good, just a bit of wind to contend with. The first 3 miles are very hilly on testing terrain and the second half of the race is very fast, mainly downhill or flat around the very scenic Dovestone Reservoir in Saddleworth.
As with any local race ECH athletes were out in force. Gavin Browne ran brilliantly to win the race by over 2 minutes with a time of 36.22. Mr Consistent Darren Smith ran well again coming home in 13th place in 41.48 and 2nd Vet 45. Ian Fraser was also 2nd in his Vet 55 age category coming home in 19th place overall with 43.03. James Hartshorne ran well to finish 41st in 47.22 and Andy Sykes not far behind in 49th with 48.27. Karen Fleming finished a brilliant 2nd Female Vet 45 in 51.13 with Emma Macqueen finishing an amazing 1st place in her Female Vet 50 category in a time of 52.18.
Well done to Gavin, Darren and Ian who won the team event and were rewarded with 4 real ales each!
