Leverhulme park in Bolton hosted this years annual Greater Manchester X-Country Championships on Saturday 9th January. As usual ECH had many competitors in many different age groups. The aim is to finish high enough (top 6) to give yourself a chance of representing Greater Manchester at the Inter County Cross Country Championships.
Stand out performances included Megan Lewis finishing a brilliant 5th in the under 13 girls event and her brother George also had a good run in the under 17 men’s race also finishing 5th. Both in with a great chance to represent Greater Manchester. Keenan Owen again showing good form this season finished a fantastic 2nd place in the under 15 boys race to gain selection for Greater Manchester, only 4 seconds behind the winner.
Luke Piper coming in to good form this x-country season finished a solid 6th place in the under 20 men’s race. In the Senior Women’s race Beth Hirst had a great run fishing 6th overall with Hayley Simpson not far behind in a very respectable 9th place. Tom McGuinness was first home for ECH in the Senior Men’s race finishing a excellent 12th in a strong field. Joe Hudak and Kevin Jowett closely followed in 21st and 24th respectively.
