This weekend Liverpool’s Sefton Park hosted the European Cross Country trials for juniors up to seniors. Joe Steward ran in the Under 20 men’s event hoping to make the top 6 giving him the chance to be selected for GB & NI.
With 600m to go Joe was in 2nd place in front of a group of 6, looking really strong and relaxed. Joe hit the woods before the final straight and was accidentally clipped, fell, and ended up in 6th. However, Joe used his finishing sprint to catch them up but lost his speed for the finish leaving him to finish in 6th place.
The first 5 places were automatic and 6th is discretionary. However, British Athletics today announced the teams to represent Team GB in Toulon, France and Joe has been given his second GB vest and a chance to run against the best in Europe. Fantastic achievement, well done Joe!
