Match 1 – 13/10/2018 – Wythenshawe Park, Manchester (no under 11′s)
The first match of the cross country season took place at a fast, flat but very windy Wythenshawe Park with a good turnout from ECH athletes The under 13 boys team finished a solid 3rd place overall with excellent performances from Luke Carrington 7th, James McGraw 10th and James Harney 16th making up the team. The under 13 girls were also well represented with the team finishing a creditable 5th place with good performances coming from Matilda Byrnes 11th, May Mannion 14th and Madeline Stout 20th. The under 15 girls team finished 8th overall with Rose Barlow having a great run to come home in 6th place, followed up by Aliesha Smith 25th and Macy Singleton 47th. Megan Lewis and Abby O’Neill ran well in the under 17 women’s race to finish in 6th and 14th respectively.
Bethany McManus was first home for ECH in the senior women’s race finishing 19th overall out of over 300 competitors, closely followed by Hayley Simpson in 26th place. Michelle Vaughan 64th and Sally Teague 98th made up the team which finished 12th place overall. Joe Hudak was first home for ECH in the senior men’s race finishing in a brilliant 17th place out of nearly 450 finishers. Hailemariam Abraham ran well to finish in 33rd place (2nd under 20) with Gavin Browne just behind in 34th place. Michael Stansfield 111th, Robin Horner 142nd and Darren Smith 153rd made up the team which finished in 12th place.

Match 2 – 10/11/2018 – University playing fields, Wythenshawe
The second match of the series took place at the University playing fields/Knowlsey Woods in good conditions over a relatively flat and fast course. Another good turnout from ECH athletes with some excellent performances on the day. The under 11’s took part in their first race of the series with the boys team finishing 6th overall with good performances from Alfie Manser 18th, Alfie Bundy 21st and Finan Docherty 23rd. Emily Bowker had an amazing run to win the under 11 girls race by 10 seconds and was supported by Darcy Slattery 25th and Ave Royle 53rd to finish 9th in the team event. A fantastic 3rd place for the under 13 boys team with Luke Carrington 6th, James Harney 8th and Edward Rankin 26th all performing well. The under 13 girls team placed 7th with May Mannion first home in 10th, closely followed by Matilda Byrnes 13th and Madelane Stout 27th. Greg Dari ran brilliantly in the under 15 boys race starting slowly and finishing strong to take 3rd place overall. Ben Clayton and Harrison Bowers made up the team finishing 36th and 38th respectively with the team placing 8th overall. The under 15 girls finished 7th with Rose Barlow making the top 10 in 8th place, Jessica Willock 25th and Macy Singleton 42nd also ran well to make up the team. Megan Lewis had a solid race to finish 4th in the under 17 women’s race and teammate Abby O’Neil finished in a creditable 10th place.
The senior women’s team finished 13th overall out of 76 teams. Bethany McManus was first home in 22nd place, Sally Teague 51st, Michelle Vaughan 71st and Angela Oldham 131st (1st lady 65) made up the team. The senior men’s team finished 18th overall out of 68 teams with good performances from Joe Hudak 18th, Gavin Browne 31st, Robin Horner 134th, Michael Stansfield 163rd, Darren Smith 181st and Barry Hirst 190th.

Match 3 – 01/12/2018 – Woodbank Park, Stockport
The third match of the series took place at Stockport’s Woodbank Park with a very tough hill to negotiate for all! The under 11 boys team finished in a creditable 6th place with good performances from Alfie Manser 14th, Bobby Burton 19th and Alfie Bundy 24th. In the under 11 girls race Emily Bowker had another magnificent run to win by over 25 seconds and teammates Darcy Slattery 19th and Meadow Wright 35th made up the team which finished in 6th place. The under 13 boys team finished in a solid 5th with Luke Carrington first home for ECH in 8th place followed by Edward Rankin 23rd and Cole Wright 32nd. The under 13 girls team finished a brilliant 4th place with excellent performances from May Mannion 10th, Matilda Byrnes 20th and Madelane Stout 21st. Rose Barlow ran well to finish 8th in the under 15 girls event, with Aliesha Smith 32nd and Katherine Waters 34th making up the team which finished in 9th place overall. Megan Lewis had a superb run in the under 17 women’s race to come home in 2nd place overall and Abby O’Neill finished a creditable 8th in the same race.
The senior women’s team finished a brilliant 9th out of nearly 60 teams. Hayley Simpson was first home for ECH in 11th place, with Beth McManus 19th, Michelle Vaughan 55th and Sally Teague 63rd making up the team. A good run came from Angela Oldham to finish 2nd in the vet 65 category. The senior men’s team finished 21st out of 58 teams with Gavin Browne first back in 22nd place followed by Michael Stansfield 108th, Liam Browne 120th, Darren Smith 155th, Jacob Taylor 172nd and Dennis Thomas 221st.

Match 4 – 12/01/2019 – Heaton Park, Manchester
The fourth race out of five in the series took place at Heaton Park in windy, slightly muddy conditions, but not bad for this time of the season. Again a big turnout from ECH athletes and some fantastic performances to kick start the new year.
The under 11 boys team finished a solid 6th with Alfie Bundy 15th, Alfie Manser 21st and Bobby Burton 24th. An excellent run from Emily Bowker came in the under 11 girls race who romped home to victory with teammates Darcy Slattery 18th and Meadow Wright 53rd making up the team which finished 8th overall. Some impressive performances in the under 13 boys race with Luke Carrington first home for ECH in 6th, closely followed by James McGraw 9th and James Harney 10th to take a brilliant 3rd in the team event. The under 13 girls team finished 7th with good performances from May Mannion 10th, Imogen Gush 22nd and Madeline Stout 24th. The under 15 girls finished a creditable 6th in the team event with Rose Barlow 8th, Jessica Willock 31st and Aliesha Smith 33rd. Megan Lewis ran well to finish 4th in the under 17 women’s race.
The senior women performed well finishing 8th place overall out of 61 teams. Hayley Simpson was the first counter coming home in 11th, followed by Bethany McManus 39th, Sally Teague 61st and Michelle Vaughan 81st. The senior men’s team also finished 8th with a fantastic performance coming from Joe Steward who won the race by 30 seconds on his first race in 12 months after injury. Joe Hudak 28th, Gavin Browne 35th, Liam Browne 101st, Tim Greenald 111th and Michael Stansfield 127th made up the team.

Match 5 – 09/02/2019 – University playing fields, Wythenshawe
The final match of the series took place at the University playing fields for a second time this season. A good turnout and some excellent performances again from ECH athletes.
The under 11 boys team finished a solid 5th with strong runs from Alfie Manser 17th, Bobby Burton 18th and Alfie Bundy 24th. Another excellent performance from Emily Bowker in the under 11 girls event winning the race overall by 13 seconds. Darcy Slattery ran well to finish 11th and Meadow Wright made up the team finishing 49th with team placing 6th overall. The under 13 boys team finished a brilliant 2nd place with Luke Carrington 5th, James McGraw 10th and James Harney 13th all having great runs. The under 13 girls team placed 9th with Matilda Byrnes 11th, May Mannion 23rd and Madelane Stout 37th making up the team. The under 15 girls team finished in 6th place with Rose Barlow 8th, Aliesha Smith 24th and Macy Singleton 34th. Megan Lewis had another consistent run to come home in 3rd place in the under 17 women’s race.
The senior women’s team finished a creditable 20th place out of 54 teams. Hayley Simpson was first home running well to finish 12th place, followed by Michelle Vaughan 82nd, Angela Oldham 96th and Catherine Daley 188th. The senior men finished 23rd out of 51 teams with Joe Hudak first back for ECH in 23rd place with Liam Browne 95th, Michael Stansfield 104th, Dennis Thomas 185th, Jacob Taylor 220nd and Derek Hughes 266th.
Well done to those athletes who were able to complete the series of taking part in 4 out of the 5 races (3 out of 4 for under 11’s). Special mention to Emily Bowker who won the series overall by winning every single race! Also, well done to Megan Lewis who finished 2nd overall in the under 17 women’s category.
