The Northern Cross Country Championships 2016 took place on Saturday at Witton Park in Blackburn. Tough conditions prevailed with hail storms etc making it hard running for all taking part. Some great results from ECH runners…
In the under 13 girls race there were good runs from Megan Lewis 62nd, Freya Handley 78th and Ty-Brockley Langford 81st all in 20 seconds of each other. There were 4 representatives in the under 15 girls event all within a minute of each other with Abby O’Neil first back in 82nd, then Holly Jackson 102nd, Molly Healey 114th and Alyssa Davey 115th finishing 13th team overall.
A very impressive run from Keenan Owen in the Under 15 boys race, finishing a fantastic 4th position only 27 seconds off the winner, which was the highest ECH finish of the day. Jake Smith also ran in the same race finishing a solid 140th position. Alannah Newell was the only representative in the under 17 women’s race finishing 96th. Three boys took part in the under 17 men’s race with a good run from George Lewis finishing high up the field in 33rd, with team-mates Callum Rhodes and Paolo Guarnieri finishing 94th and 99th respectively.
Hayley Simpson who is having a great cross country season ran in the under 20 women’s race finishing a very creditable 24th place out of 47 finishers. Two good runs from both Tom McGuinness and Luke Piper in the under 20 men’s event, with Tom finishing a brilliant 10th and Luke not far behind in 28th place.
Two senior women from ECH took to the course and performing well with Beth Hirst finishing hip up the field in 78th and a good effort from Stephanie Owen in 345th. Five senior men took to the tough 12k course with Kevin Jowett running brilliantly coming home first for ECH with a top 100 finish in 91st place.Next home was Joe Hudak in 193rd followed by Barry Hirst 252nd, Derek Hughes 422nd and Martin Lewis in 597th place.
Well done to all who competed in this tough event in tough conditions.
