The Tour of Tameside was back this weekend with many ECH athletes taking part. The Tour consists of 4 races in 4 days, starting with a 10k trail race finishing in Daisy Nook on the Thursday evening, a 6 mile fell race over Hobson moor and finishing next to Active Copley on the Friday evening, a half marathon Saturday morning on Longendale trail and finally a 7 mile road race in Hyde on the Sunday morning finishing outside Hyde Town Hall.
Well done to those who completed the full tour, a fantastic achievement especially in very hot conditions on Saturday and Sunday. Mark Millns was the first ECH athlete to complete the tour running consistently to finish 15th overall with an overall time of 3.47.32. Derek Hughes completed yet another tour finishing 52nd overall with a time of 4.12.32 and 4th in his vet 55 category. Pamela Read finished 136th overall and 4th in the lady 35 age category with sister Jennifer finishing 144th overall and 6th in the same age category with overall times of 4.51.04 and 4.53.47 respectively. Barbara Dickinson finishing 166th overall with a time of 5.06.14 good enough for 10th in her vet 45 category. Andrea Maidment came 5th in her vet 50 age category and 188th overall with a time of 5..15.46. Well done to all, and well done to ex-East Cheshire athlete Gareth Raven for winning every stage and the overall winner of the Tour of Tameside 2017!
A few good performances came in the individual races for those that chose not to do the full tour. Joe Hudak winning the battle to take 3rd place in the hell on the fell 6 mile race and taking home a cash prize with Gavin Browne just 4 seconds behind in 4th place. Hayley Simpson had a good run to finish 4th lady in the same race. Mussie Kassa had a brilliant run in the Hyde 7 mile race finishing 2nd overall with a time of 40.27, again taking home a cash prize.
